Know About Botany

What exactly is meant by Botany?


Definition: In scientific terms botany is a branch of Biology. It deals with the study of plants, including their classification, structure, physiology, morphology, ecology, genetics, economic importance.
In other words, Botany is the study of the biology of a plant or plant group.
Well, there are not just plants that are studied under this branch of Biology. Fungi and algae are also included and are considered a crucial part of Botany.
The scientists who specialize in this field of study are called Botanists. Similarly, those who study algae are referred to as Phycologists (Algologists), and those studying fungi as Mycologists.

Father of Botany= Theophrastus is known as the 'Father of Botany'.
Whereas, Carolus Linneaus, also called Carl Linneaus is 'The Father of Modern Botany'.
